Q. Hello Joanne! Tell us about your history with Borg & Overström and the path that you have been on to get you where you are today.
A. Hello. I’ve been with Borg & Overström for just over 2 years now. I started part time in the finance department and part time order processing, but in the last few months I have moved full time into the finance team.
Q. What did you do before you came here?
A. Before I came to Borg & Overström I went to a local college to study for my A-levels. I studied business, accounting, chemistry, biology, and physics. When I was there I decided I wanted to pursue a future in business/finance, and after finishing my second year I was fortunate enough to be offered a job at Borg & Overström.
Q. Why did you decide to come and work with Borg & Overström?
A. I had heard great things about the culture and the work ethic of the company; it sounded like a company I would be proud to work for!
Q. What does a typical day look like for you at Borg & Overström?
A. Each day varies in the finance team depending on the time of the month, but a typical day for me would consist of monitoring the supplier accounts. This could include posting invoices and payments, checking statements and general accounts administration, ensuring our system is up to date and everything is kept tidy and organised. I am also on hand to support the finance manager with any jobs passed to the finance team.
Q. How would you describe working within the Borg & Overström culture?
A. Being part of Borg & Overström is a great pleasure! Each team has a ‘can do’ attitude that creates a positive atmosphere throughout the company. Although teams have their own tasks and goals to achieve, all of us come together to help one another and to push the overall goals of the business.
Q. What in particular is different about working with Borg & Overström over other teams?
A. The team here at Borg & Overström is extremely passionate about what we do. With this passion the team is able to work together and strive for excellence.
Q. Tell us about one instance of professional experience, for example training, which you’ve really valued while working at Borg & Overström.
A. My whole experience with Borg & Overström so far is something I highly value. Before working with the company I had very little confidence and would be extremely shy around new people. Since coming here I have come out of my shell and have much more confidence in my abilities. This has been reflected in my work life as well as life outside work.
Q. Tell us about a recent success in your role that you are particularly proud of.
A. Recently I moved into the finance team full time which is something I have wanted to do for a while now. I did enjoy my split role in order processing as this was where I was able to test myself and improve my confidence levels, but after two years I knew finance was where I wanted to be long term, and where my focus would be best utilised. I am proud of my overall journey at Borg & Overström as it has given me the self-confidence required to take a business diploma to further my knowledge, which I know will help me develop as a member of the team.
Q. In your opinion, what is the single most important aspect of a successful team team?
A. It is hard to pick just one thing but to me I think one of the most important aspects of a successful team is trust. If you don’t have trust in your team and each of their abilities, you cannot work in harmony together and achieve your full potential.
Q. Which of the Borg & Overström values for you love to see emulated in your colleagues?
A. I love to see all of the Borg & Overström values emulated by the team as it shows we are all working to the same goals and with the same culture in mind. However, to me collaboration is what I like to see from my colleagues the most as it highlights everyone’s willingness to help the team achieve and exceed our targets. We have some excellent individuals, but it is when all of those people come together that we can succeed.
Q. What is your personal favourite Borg & Overström product?
A. My personal favourite product is the b5. For me, this product really reflects the Borg & Overtsröm brand; unique, stylish and a premium product.
Q. In your opinion, what sets them apart from other workplace refreshment solutions?
A. The Borg & Overström products are reliable, easy to use and look great in any work space.
Q. How would the rest of your team describe you?
A. I would like to think that the team find me helpful and approachable, always willing to help where I can. I think they would say I’m hard working and passionate about the Borg & Overström brand.
Q. What is one thing about yourself that might surprise them (and us!)?
A. I’m an avid baker! I’m often baking in my spare time when I’m not working
