Westpac London: How the Borg & Overström T3 Tap System Supports Sustainable Workplace Design

Designed by the award-winning practice TP Bennett and delivered by Overbury, Westpac's London headquarters achieved industry recognition as a finalist in the FX Design Awards 2025 in the Workspace Environment Small category. Westpac's relocation to Gresham Street has created a workplace that reflects its Australian heritage, supports future growth and enhances employees' everyday experience.

Why the T3 Tap System was the right fit

The Borg & Overström T3 Tap System combines fresh, filtered chilled, sparkling and hot water within a single minimalist tap. Each T3 tap is capable of producing up to 80 litres of Chilled and Sparkling water per hour, making it well suited to Westpac's office, serving at least 50 people per tap throughout the day, perfect for their busy workspace, even during peak hours of demand.

Why financial workplaces are leading the shift in next generation hydration

The financial sector has traditionally placed significant emphasis on workplace quality. Major banking and professional services organisations like Westpac understand that their offices communicate something important about their brand, culture and ambition.

They incorporate:

  • hospitality-quality reception areas
  • premium employee lounges
  • collaboration zones
  • wellness facilities
  • café-style social spaces
  • high-quality food and beverage amenities

This reflects a broader understanding that workplace experience influences engagement and productivity. Employees are more likely to value and use offices that provide something beyond a traditional desk environment. A premium water system may appear like a small detail, but placed at the centre of their coffee bars and kitchen areas, it provides a space for co-workers to connect and to host clients and visitors. It fosters productivity and wellness, and an essential interaction point that everyone will use. Which is why it pairs so well with coffee facilities in the same space.

Sustainability and the move away from bottled water

Environmental responsibility is also influencing workplace specifications. Like many organisations, Westpac are actively reducing single-use plastics and looking for solutions that support their sustainability targets. Their sustainability ethos of "Strengthen sustainability learning so our people bring expertise and balance into every decision and interaction" is a key focus when it comes to decision making. That's why they chose mains-fed filtered water systems like the T3 to offer an alternative to bottled water by providing fresh chilled, sparkling and hot water directly from the building's water supply.

By replacing bottled water deliveries and single-use plastic with point-of-use (POU) water dispensers and integrated tap systems, Westpac make the more sustainable option the easiest and most visible choice for employees. When fresh, filtered water is readily available directly from a workplace tap, employees are naturally encouraged to refill reusable bottles, reduce reliance on disposable packaging and adopt more environmentally conscious habits throughout the working day.
