With AI image creation so accessible, we are all looking to AI to create the product images we use to sell on social media and beyond. There is, however, one issue we all face: consistency.
The Problem.
At Borg & Overström, we see thousands of images of our tap and dispenser products across our entire distribution base; however, over recent years we have seen a huge shift from curated and often costly photoshoot imagery to rapidly produced AI-generated imagery. Although this has a huge cost benefit to our customers, we are seeing a sharp decrease in the quality of output and, most importantly, a huge mismatch between the look of the real products and the AI recreations.
AI is not going anywhere, so in this article we are going to show you how to get consistent results from your AI image generator of choice, ensuring that you get a good yield of quality, usable product images that represent the real product accurately.
Context, context context!
The main reason your AI isn't reproducing the product accurately is because it doesn't know what the product is actually meant to look like every time. If you give your AI one image of your product and ask it to reproduce it, it has almost no data for the dimensions of the product, how the material reacts in the lighting of different environments, what the rear of the product looks like, What it would look like when rotated 30 degrees.
We give our AI this context by providing quality, varied examples from REAL photography.
For us at Borg & Overström, we do this step for our distributors by providing a complete library of real product imagery in many different environments. See our brand portal.
Download images from our brand portal
We recommend downloading at least 10 product images over as many angles as possible. Bonus points if you can select images that already feature a similar look or vibe to the final image you want to create, as this will get AI close to the final look directly referencing real photography.

The prompt.
Now comes the prompt. The context from your images gets you 50% there, but the prompt, when done correctly, ensures your AI doesn't imagine or hallucinate anything. Over many image generations we noticed that, when reproducing our T3 tap system, most AIs would consistently muddy up or change the look of our drip-tray, touch panel icons and logo. So the solution was simple, make specific references to elements the AI gets wrong, and tell it to leave it as is, and not change a thing about it vs the original source material.
Example with reference images:
"These are images of a Borg & Overström T3 tap. Make a new image of this product on the counter of a modern kitchen. Do not change the design of the product, it must have the same icons on the touch panel and the drip tray must be identical. Include 2 glasses of water next to it."
Pair this with the 10-15 reference images
For T3 tap system
If you are creating images with our E-series or B-series dispensers, we have noticed AI struggles to get the size and proportions correct as well as the icons and logo on the control panel.
"These are images of a Borg & Overström E6 water dispenser. Make a new image of this product in the lobby of a modern luxury hotel. Do not change the design of the product, it must have the same icons on the touch panel and the proportions of the product must be identical."
Pair this with the 10-15 reference images

The result.
As of November 2026, we have managed to get consistent results from AI image generation using Google Gemini (Nano Banana 2.1) and Chat GPT Image 2.0. Our example prompt is vague, without a clearly defined environment, or even colour of tap, so please do try out the prompt with your own environment described.

If all else fails
The reality is, AI technology still isn't reliable enough for getting certain small details right, so sometimes, we have to resort to old fashioned image editing. If you have access to Photoshop or similar software, we have made available our control panel artwork for overlaying on the image. Just follow these steps:
- Paint out the incorrect panel artwork on the AI generated image
- Import the correct artwork and pin all four corners to the edges of the control panel
- Duplicate the artwork layer and slightly blur it. This will give a slight glow effect to make the icons appear illuminated.
